Infographic shows the top 10 reasons people move to other countries, with quality of life as number one.

  1. Quality of Life

Achieving a better quality of life topped the list as the most popular reason people would consider moving abroad. For people who move abroad, this often means better access to healthcare and education, as well as the chance to live in safer cities with cleaner environments. It also means having access to services such as more efficient public transport. A lot of people are looking for destinations that offer long-term security, stability and a better focus on wellbeing for themselves and their families.

  1. Lifestyle

A key factor that inspires people to move to another country is enjoying a new lifestyle. Beyond the practicalities, lifestyle is all about the everyday experiences that shape how life feels. For some, that might mean making the most of a more relaxed pace, while for others it’s about immersing themselves in local culture, enjoying local cuisine and connecting with the community. A move abroad can offer the chance to create a more fulfilling way of life, which is shaped by all the small details.

  1. Career opportunities

Professional growth is a big driver for moving to a new country, with many hoping to access better career opportunities - for some, that might mean embarking on a new career in a fast-moving industry such as technology, or progressing further in an established industry like construction or healthcare. Relocating is often a great way to unlock job opportunities that might not be available at home - meaning people can chase after their dreams.

For many people, in countries like Canada, the US and UK, this means they also land better-paying job opportunities to send money home to India or the Philippines to name just two examples.

  1. Financial security

With a better job market comes better earning potential. Money, of course, plays a big part in wanting to move abroad, with the financial benefits, such as a potential lower cost of living, competitive salaries or making the most of living in a country with a more stable economy. These days, people are often looking for how (and where) their money can go further, to help them enjoy a higher standard of living.

  1. Adventure and personal growth

For some, the desire for adventure and personal growth is the biggest pull to move to another country. It can be a great opportunity to embrace new cultures, step out of your comfort zone and build up resilience by taking on new challenges. A lot of people also see relocating as a chance to explore undiscovered places, whether they want to see more of the world or get to know their new home a little better.

The most popular countries to move to and why people want to move to them

As part of our aim to understand why people would want to move we also asked which country they would want to move to the most and what factors would attract them to move to that country.

The study revealed that the top 10 countries people wanted to move to are Canada, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, New Zealand and Germany.
